
how WE work
We work with anyone who is suffering from psychological distress. This could be due to trauma, mental health issues, significant life challenges, or relationship difficulties. Learning skills to manage these challenges is an essential first step however we prefer to help our clients heal their deeper pain rather than just manage it.
Most of us who have suffered from trauma carry it around with us long after the experience is over. Trauma is not always a major event that causes us to fear for our safety, it can be any situation where there is an experience of emotional pain, including situations of neglect, control, and abuse. These experiences often lead to deeply held negative beliefs about ourselves and the world which go on to cause significant problems in many aspect of our lives. It is for this reason that trauma is a major focus of our work.
We use a person-centred approach which means not attaching too much meaning to diagnostic labels. Labels can be helpful in directing treatment but we view our clients as whole people rather than as a dysfunction that needs to be fixed. This involves developing a treatment plan based on our client’s goals then using a structured approach to work towards those goals.
